  • GA Peach Festival – 6/2-3 in Fort Valley, 6/10 in Byron!

    The annual Georgia Peach Festival is happening in downtown Fort Valley on June 2-3 AND in downtown Byron on June 10! The festival is a shared event between the two towns, featuring not just live music and vendors but also the World’s Largest Peach Cobbler!

    It always lands in June, which is when peach season really starts to ramp up. Peach County is the heart of the central region with about 1.6 million peach trees yielding about 100 million bushels every year, or 75 percent of the whole state’s production! (So yeah, that’s worth having a festival over!)

    The festival is a celebration of peach growers and Georgia’s beautiful orchards. It includes numerous events and activities scheduled to honor Peach Growers and showcase Fort Valley and Byron.

  • Warner Robins Independence Day 2023 – Foodtrucks & John Stapp from Creed!

    Get ready for an incredible celebration at the Warner Robins Independence Day Celebration on July 1st! The event, taking place at McConnell-Talbert Stadium, promises a memorable experience for all. Mayor LaRhonda Patrick recently revealed the impressive lineup, featuring a variety of talented performers, including the renowned Scott Stapp from Creed. Plus, you can look forward to a delightful array of affordable food trucks that cater to different tastes and budgets.

    The festivities will kick off with the energetic emcee, AJ the DJ, setting the stage for a night filled with music and entertainment. The headliners include the iconic Dazz Band, known for their soulful and funky tunes, and the legendary rock band Jefferson Starship, renowned for their timeless hits. Adding to the excitement, Scott Stapp, the lead singer of Creed, will grace the stage with his powerful vocals.

    In addition to the fantastic music, the Warner Robins Independence Day Celebration offers a diverse selection of food trucks to satisfy your cravings. Mayor Patrick and the organizers have made it a priority to ensure that the food options are affordable, making it accessible for families and individuals on a budget.   • Spring Carnival at Galleria Mall, May 5-14

    Are you ready for some carnival fun?? The Galleria Mall parking lot is about to transform with rides, games, and entertainment! Starting this Friday, May 5th, through Sunday, May 14th, the carnival is coming to the Houston County Galleria, in the parking lot in front of Belk facing Watson Boulevard.

    Rides take 3-5 tickets each, which cost $1-$1.50 depending on how many you buy, but unlimited ride wristbands are available every day! Wristbands cost $20 Mon-Thurs, $25 on Friday and $30 on weekends.

    Regular hours are 5-10pm, but on Friday and Saturday, the carnival will stay open until 11 pm so you can keep the fun going even longer! And the carnival opens at 3 pm on Saturdays and Sundays for the early birds.

    There will be rides of course, including the classic Ferris wheel, as well as games and food (TWO WORD: FUNNEL. CAKE.) – the carnival has something for everyone!

    It ain’t the GA National Fair, but it’ll whet your appetite for a while without the crowds if you’re in the mood for some family fun!

  • Don’t Miss the Battle of Byron Festival on May 6!

    The Battle of Byron is back for the first time since 2017! The annual festival will be held on Saturday, May 6th in the historic downtown district of Byron, and admission is free. It of course features live music and vendors, but what sets the Battle of Byron apart are the quirky and numerous “challenges” – check out the schedule below for a taste!

    Just look at all the fun/weird stuff to do! The address for the general area of the festival is:

    The Battle of Byron festival started in 1979 as part of a community improvement project initiated by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and Gov. George Busbee. Since then, it has become a beloved tradition in the Peach County area, and a major fundraiser for civic and church groups. It has been on hiatus since 2017, but hopefully will take on new life in 2023 and beyond!

    The festival features all kinds of challenges to participate in if you’re so inclined, such as the Trike Race, the Fanny Race, the Bed Chase, the Greased Flagpole, the Auburn Tigers vs. the UGA Dawgs Tug-of-War, Mud Volleyball, and a Pie Eating Challenge. There’s also a classic car show that runs all day.

    Get your taste buds ready and your dancing shoes on, because the 2023 Food Truck Friday Series is kicking off in Centerville! Center Park is the place to be on May 5 for delicious eats and live beats (that’s music, y’all) while let the kids hit the splash pad!

  • Old Book Sale at GA National Fairgrounds – Free Entry Today/Tomorrow!

    Attention book lovers! Score some amazing deals on books and media at the “Old Book Sale” happening this weekend at the GA National Fairgrounds! This annual event is sponsored by Houston County Friends of the Library – the books are all decommissioned library books and proceeds benefit our HoCo libraries!

    Admission is free Friday and Saturday – explore over 90,000 books and media sorted into more than 50 categories! Whether you’re into fiction, non-fiction, biography, history, or children’s books, there is something for everyone here. And the best part? Average prices are only between 50 cents to $3.00, so you’re sure to get your hands on some great finds without breaking the bank!

    The sale is taking place inside the Georgia Grown Building, so you’ll be able to shop rain or shine. On Saturday, it’s half-price day, so you’ll have an even greater chance to snag some bargains.

  • FREE event on 4/21: Vietnam POWs speak at Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins

    Attention history buffs! Step back in time and hear the incredible stories of America’s Vietnam POWs. On April 21, 2023, the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins, GA, will host a special event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Operation Homecoming, and you’re invited to be a part of it! Event is FREE, but tickets required – reserve them here.

    A special panel of former POWs will share their stories, giving us insight into the challenges and triumphs they experienced, followed by an interactive Q&A. The event will take place from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Century of Flight Hangar – Building 2

    Operation Homecoming marked the release of 591 American Prisoners of War from Vietnam, and their return to freedom was a significant moment in American history. Now, you can hear firsthand accounts of what life was like for those who were able to return home from this harrowing experience.

    This event is the first in a series of Heritage events that will honor the anniversaries, missions, aviation, and heroic airmen who made our military great. It’s an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of our country’s history and the sacrifices made by those who served our nation.

    This is a rare opportunity to hear live from Vietnam veterans about the experience and would be a great learning experience for families. Reserve those seats and come join us April 21st at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins!

    Are you ready for Peaches to Beaches in Perry this weekend, Houston County??

    The annual 200-mile yard sale is a Middle GA bargain hunter’s paradise, with hundreds of official vendors and many private individuals selling everything from antiques to clothing to furniture. all along Hwy 341, from Barnesville to Brunswick!

    To help you make the most of your shopping experience, here are 5 tips for your Peaches to Beaches bargain hunting:

    1. Plan Your Route – Before you head out, map out your route and mark the locations of the vendors you want to visit. This will help you stay organized and save time! Are you going to just see what’s available in Perry, or meander down 341 a ways for private yard sales? You could plan to hit up the official stops in Fort Valley and Hawkinsville as well – whatever you decide, it’s always good to know before you go!
    2. Bring cash – Many vendors at Peaches to Beaches only accept cash, so make sure you have enough on hand. And don’t forget to bring small bills and change for haggling!
    3. Dress comfortably – You might be doing a lot of walking and browsing, so wear comfortable shoes and clothes – it should be in the mid-60s. You might also want sunscreen, a hat and water to stay hydrated.
    4. Shop early for the best stuff, shop late for the best deals – The early bird catches the worm, but the best deals at any yard sale come at closing! These are also the best times to avoid the crowds.
